Music Therapist Job Description
Wage: $30/hour

Accountability: Music Therapist reports to the Executive Director and the Program Director.
Job Summary: The Music Therapist will plan and conduct music-based classes that provide the clients an opportunity to develop their unique creative skills, and guide the clients toward appropriate self-expression.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform other related duties as required and/or assigned, especially with regards to serving the needs of the clients.
Dependable and on-time attendance on scheduled days, and timely notification (by 7:30 am of scheduled day) of absence due to illness.
Ongoing development of musical arrangements and repertoire for the clients.
Represent Creative Identity, its program, clients, and staff in a professional and promoting manner: at program events, in community contact with other businesses or persons, and in any interactions with parents/caregivers/agency representatives. Provide direction/guidance to program aides, interns, fieldwork students, and volunteers as needed.
Plan and coordinate community concert show bookings and follow up confirmations; arrange appropriate staff and client attendance with transportation staff; attend to aspects of presenting client concerts, processing sales/donations, upkeep of inventories and related documentation.
Plan classes within program budget, and maintain instrument inventory and documentation of needed repairs, etc.
Monitor general supervision of clients.
Follow protocol and assist in all aspects of the program, including, but not limited to: being prepared for classes before their scheduled start time, organizing clients for morning stretching class and assist them in participating, following class schedule for client progress updating (5-10 minutes before class break times) and documentation, implementing timely class clean-up/break down, and overseeing the proper care and storage of all supplies and instruments.
Maintain a safe working area environment for clients.
Advocate for clients whenever appropriate and necessary.
Follow all Creative Identity procedures in documentation of services, including, but not limited to: client daily progress documentation, monthly client summaries, service billing documentation, Special Incident Report documentation, client seizure records, staff sign-in documentation, requests for funds or time off documentation, etc.
Inform Program Director of noteworthy observations regarding any client's health or safety concerns, progress or challenges needing attention, and also contribute suggestions for client goals and objectives (for the Individual Service Plan or ISP) based on music therapist's best assessment.
Attend all staff meetings, rehearsals and concerts, and take an active role during these functions.
Instruction of designated and approved curriculum.
Create curriculum in response to inter-departmental collaboration and/or in response to Program Director requests.
Inter-Relationships: Music therapist will maintain appropriate direct contact with clients and Creative Identity staff, as well as some contact with client family/support circle members.
Skills and Educational Requirements: Music therapists must have a Bachelor level degree in Music Therapy, and the ability to perform all job duties as assigned; effectively and appropriately deal with client behavior issues; be able to lift 25 lbs.; and communicate appropriately verbally and in writing. Music therapists must have experience with developmentally disabled populations.
Working Conditions: Music therapist must use own vehicle for traveling to and from the program, shows and events. Occasional weekends and overtime will be required. Music therapist must be able to meet flexible schedule and be open to all assignments.
