Instructional Assistant Job Description
Wage: $20/hour Employee
Status: Part-Time, Full-Time
Accountability: Reports to Executive Director and Program Director
Job Summary: The Instructional Assistant will implement fine arts (music, expressive arts, etc…) and prevocational activities, such as life skills classes, as assigned for various levels of ability that provide an opportunity for participants to achieve their goals and objectives and develop their creative skills. The Instructional Assistant will foster independence by guiding the participants with their work and providing opportunities for them to do as much as they are able for themselves.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Implement fine arts (music, expressive arts, etc…) and prevocational activities as assigned for various levels of ability that provide an opportunity for participants to achieve their goals and objectives and develop their creative skill as assigned.
Attend all staff meetings, rehearsals and concerts, and take an active role during these functions.
Documentation of participant attendance, and participant progress notes
Monitor general supervision of participants
Encourage participant participation in classes and other program activities
Provide lunch time support to staff and participants. A half hour off-duty lunch time will be provided.
Provide coaching and assistance in personal support issues: grooming, lunch preparation, minor behavioral management, and clean up from toileting accidents
Set-up and cleanup classes
Facilitate community outings as assigned
Maintain staffing ratios
Light maintenance duties as assigned
Maintenance of facilities: kitchen, refrigerator, general program areas
Participation in participant concerts and special events: preparation, attendance, and clean up. Some weekends and week nights will be required to support participant events and activities
Contribute feedback on participant progress and related participant issues/observations in regards to participant safety and participant Individual Support Plan
Advocate for participants as needed and appropriate, and report health care issues to Supervisor and Staff
Follow all Creative Identity procedures in the timely documentation of services, including but not limited to: daily documentation, participant summaries, Special Incidents Reports, seizure records, requests for time off documentation, and reporting needs for program supplies / repairs.
Maintain a safe working area environment for participants and staff.
Dependable and on-time attendance on scheduled days, and timely notification (by 7:00 am of scheduled day) of absence due to illness.
Perform other duties as required and/or assigned, especially with regards to serving the needs of the participants.
Inter-Relationships:
Direct contact with participants, instructors, interns, and administrators
Some contact with participant family members/caregivers/support circles
Must be able to accept and implement directions from supervisor(s), and respond to participants and staff in a respectful manner at all times
Skills and Educational Requirements:
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
Must have the ability to perform all job duties as assigned in a timely and accurate manner
Ability to deal effectively with participant behavioral issues
Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
Must pass a pre-employment background check
Must have a High School diploma at the minimum. Higher education is well regarded.
Experience with developmentally disabled population is desirable
Working Conditions:
Instructional Assistant must have a vehicle for traveling to and from the program facility and participant events in the community
Must be able to meet flexible schedule and be open to all assignments
Must be available some weekends and evenings during the year to provide support to participants at community events such as craft fairs, participant outings, and participant performances
